Memory and the power of photographs. Is it fading?


The School of Life features a recent, interesting article by Cathy Haynes on Taking Pictures.

She discusses the frequency of photo-taking these days (given the prevalence of mobile devices, digital cameras, etc.) and what effect that may have on memory and the power of photographs.

When Photographs Are Too Hard To Keep


Everyone has them--those memories stored away in boxes, rarely, if ever, revisited, and, when glanced at, elicit a heartwrenching memory of a time past. Jason Lazarus began his project Too Hard To Keep in an effort to collect those photographs that mean too much. That would otherwise be destroyed because of the thoughts, feelings, and memories they bring out. Posted without commentary, these photographs present a silent snapshot of lives lived and loves lost.
